Trying to Recover
Flood damaged homes (not completely destroyed) have to be gutted. Water damaged walls, floors and furnishings are removed and attempts are made to salvage as much as possible above the flood line.
Providing Resources
Cleaning supplies and food will be needed. "He Cares" ministry has informed us that it will take $5,500 to send a semi-truck filled with materials to the area in need. We have a contact person in the affected area who can help assure the materials get to the people that need them. Pine Run Church of Christ will be accepting donations (please designate: Louisiana Assistance) to help this ravaged area. Checks can be made payable to Pine Run Church of Christ, and your donation is tax deductible.
People helping People
Troop 7 and Pack 7 of St Aloysius in Baton Rouge helped residents off of Juban Road gut houses today. The group included 6 scouts and 2 Arrows of Light (weblo II) and 4 adult leaders. We cut sheetrock to above the floodline, hauled a mountain of debris and helped out 2 households. It was a long hard day. The boys are pretty beat. But 2 homes are ahead of the fight to keep out the molds that come with floods. This is just one example. It will take more volunteers, more efforts and more resources to help families get back on their feet.
""We Care"
"We Care" ministry was started by Lowell and Judy Mason. Lowell grew up in Pine Run and went on to a Gospel singing ministry. He saw a need to help Americans in the name of Jesus and helped start this ministry. It has helped people in Oklahoma, Iowa and most recently in Flint. In October of 2015 they provided a semi-truck of bottled water that was then delivered weekly door to door, for 2 1/2 months to over 300 homes in Flint, through their partnership with the Pine Run Church of Christ.
