Directory:Why a Park? The Vienna Business Development Association designated our stretch of Saginaw Street a "blighted area". They were willing to invest $ 100,000 to help businesses improve the area. Besides the improvements we made (parking lot, signage, gate repair, tree trimming), our leadership felt that using our area to establish a park (green space) would be advantageous not only to the appearance of the area, but the local residents. Why include a "Prayer Walk"? It is our desire to provide a place where people can find peace, consolation and the opportunity to reflect on what is happening in their lives. Seeing the beauty that can be found in this world, being reminded of God's love and faithfulness will be an asset as they reflect. Why "Different Themes"? We vary the "decorations" and "Themes" on a regular basis to keep the park "fresh", "informative" and "fun". Not only is each stop receive a "special decoration", but their link will include "Interesting Facts" that can lead to object lessons and a greater appreciation for what God has done. Recent themes have included: * Candy Canes * Snow Flakes * Hearts (Love) * Tulips (New life and facts) Why have "Precious Moments" design the mural? Besides the experience that "Precious Moments" brings to the project, there is a personal connection with them and Lowell Mason (besides being appreciated by several of our people for a number of years). The daughter of Sam Butcher (founder of Precious Moments) has worked with us on the design. We provided the topics and she took it from there, responding to our feedback throughout the process. Why the selection of Steve Hargash to paint the mural? Steven Hargash comes highly recommended by Bronner's of Frankenmuth. He has done numerous outdoor murals in the Frankenmuth and Vassar communities and beyond. One such mural was done using "Hummel" figures and they were pleased with his artwork and partnership. His input on the surface and preparation has already proven to be of great benefit. Hs oldest murals in Frankenmuth go back to 1995 (without touch ups). He is estimating about 800 hours of work for doing the mural along with an additional 180 hours for his assistant. Why will it be called, "Lowell Mason Prayer Walk Park"? Lowell Mason grew up in the Pine Run community, graduated from Clio High School and his father preached at the Pine Run Church of Christ. He has spent over 70 years sharing the "Love of God" with others around the world and has strong ties to Pine Run to this day. His wife, Judy, and him, have prayed for this community daily for over 59 years! QUICK BIO: Lowell came to the Pine Run Church of Christ around age 4 when his father became the preacher here. At age 9, Lowell began a gospel singing ministry with performances on the Children's Bible Hour radio program. By the time he was a teen, he was doing concerts and youth rallies throughout the tri-state area. Upon graduating from Clio High School, Lowell "Buddy" Mason headed off to college and would join Cecil Todd and "Revival Fires". There, he participated in Gospel meetings across the country and internationally. He started a ministry in the 1990's to get Bibles into Russia. This led to a Russian General being converted and helping to start Bible Studies on Russian Army bases. This General came in the early 2000's and spoke at Pine Run. Judy, Lowell's wife, has been involved in these ministries along with helping some foreign orphanages and their mission: "Operation: 'We Care' " which sends aid into storm ravaged communities in America. Lowell's music ministry has spanned over 70 years. Lowell singing: " Take That Frown off Your Face " Lowell singing: "I Don't Want To Go There" How can people get involved and help?
